Two F-35A Lightning II combat aircraft (the F002 and F008) took off from the American east coast around 12PM today. With the help of a KDC-10 tanker aircraft, they cross the Atlantic to arrive in the Netherlands during the evening. The combat aircraft can be admired from tomorrow on the RNLAF Open Days. They take place at Volkel Air Base. Incidentally, the entire operation almost failed due to a breakdown with the Dutch KDC-10 tanker. However, a day’s delay turned out to be enough to solve the problem. The flying tanker provides the F-35s with kerosene every 2,000 kilometers.
