Bulgarian Navy helicopter crash

Today, on the 9th of June, 2017, around 12:30 am local time one Navy Helicopter crashd of in Bulgaria, this is reported by the MoD. According to official information from the Ministry of Defense, during the task of “artillery firefighting” at the excersise “Black Sea – 2017”, the one AS 565MB Panther helicopter fell into the water, with three crew members. The incident occurred in the sea some 13 km east of the mouth of Kamchia river. Immediate rescue actions were taken in which crew members were taken out of the water and were transported on board the near-by military frigate.

The crew commander died in the incident, despite all efforts, said the head of the Navy, captain first rank Georgi Penev.

The other two crew members – are adequate, and in good condition. The injured servicemen were transported and accommodated at the Military Hospital in Varna. Meanwhile, their relatives are notified of the incident.

The Navy operates three Panthers delivered in 2011, which are located at the Marine Helicopter Base Chaika. According to unofficial information, the crash occurred with the 902 serial helicopter.
