Slovenian Armed Forces celebrate on the 15th of May the day of the starting of the military conscript into the Slovenian military, also the Slovenian Armed Forces Day is a day of preserving the values of Slovenian military history and especially the values of independence efforts. For this occasion all of the barracks of the Armed forces opend their gates for the public, including the Air Force of the Slovenska Vojska – Slovenian Armed Forces at Cerklje ob Krki (LJCE).
The base is part of the 15. Military Aviation Regiment and the base hosts the 151. Helicopter Squadron, the 152. Aircraft Squadron, the 153. Aviation-technical Squadron and the Flight School. The units fly with the Bell 206, AS 532 AL Cougar, PC-6, PC-9M and the czech made trainers Z-143L and the Z-242L.
Anyone who attended the open day this year had the oportunity to see not just the equipments of the Slovenian Armed forces but foreign participants from Montenegro, Austria, the Czech Republic and Croatia as well. The reason for this is that the national excersise called Adriatic Strike 2017 started on the 5th of June. It will take place over the broad territory of the Republic of Slovenia and it’s main purpose is to train Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTACs) from around the World, this marks the 6th consecutive excersise held in Slovenia, where 500 NATO Allied and partner personnel will take part, including 250 military from Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and the United States of America. Partners Austria, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Montenegro will also participate while Jordan will act as an observer.
During the open day, every rotary wing and fixed wing aircafts that will operate from the base was on static display, including the following types: Bell 206, Bell 412 and Cougar AS 532 AL from Slovenia, austrian Bell OH-58 Kiowa, SA 341 Gazelle from Montenegro, slovenian and croatian Pilatus PC-9, austrian Pilatus PC-7 and Aero L-159 from the Czech Republic, while italian AMX and Tornado, german Learjet and hungarian Saab JAS 39 Gripen will fly from their home base, hence these types were not present on the 4th of June.
There were many people during the open day, parking was inside and outside of the base, everything went well. Besides the static display, there were some dynamic program as well, 4 slovenian PC-9 did a longer air program, doing solo flying, imitated ground attack as well formation flights. Besides the planes some ground service equipments were present as well, including the fire brigade which is loved by young kids everywhere. Cool drinks and food stands were there also, some people if interested could bought souvenirs – patches, caps, t-shirts. During the open day the opening ceremony started at 11:00, where Brigadier Ernest Anželj and head of international military exercises Colonel Bojan Brecelj, commander of the 15th Air Force Regiment addressed the soldiers. The whole open door concluded around 16:00.
