AirPower 19 – 29 countries invited

The date of the next AirPower airshow confirmed last week. One of the largest airshow in Europe will return next September at the 6th and 7th at the ordinary place of the event, the Air Force Base Zeltweg, home of the 1st Squadron of the “Überwachungsgeschwader” (Surveillance Wing) and Fliegerwerft 2 using the Typhoon S, Pilatus PC-7 and SAAB-105ÖE aircrafts.

Next, the eighth edition of AirPower will hosted by the Austrian Army, the State of Styria and of course Red Bull and of course in every year hundreds of thousands of guests expected. The costs of the event, 3.6 million Euros are shared by the three organizers.

“We expect a very large international inflow,”

said Defense Minister Mario Kunasek on Thursday at a press conference at Graz-Thalerhof Airport. At the event in 2016, around 300,000 visitors came to Zeltweg.

Air Forces and display teams has invited from 29 countries for AirPower’19, and the organisers are expecting up to 200 international participant aircraft on the static display line and flying display programe. AirPower events are famous from its varied programs where the visitors can see displays by fighter jets, helicopters and popular aerobatic display teams from different air forces, interesting historic aircrafts and helicopters.

Minister Kunasek continued: “It’s also about showing the achievements of the army and the air forces – as in classic disaster relief operations such as recently in Styria and Carinthia – without helicopters we would not have intervened there so quickly.” The minister also mentioned airspace surveillance during Austria’s EU Presidency: “After all, we had 18 Alpha priority surveillance operations, with a total of 37 airspace injuries.”

AirPower will be organised in September second time next year. During the 2016 edition the organisers decided to break with traditions and place the event’s date from the last half of June to September due to the unreliable weather conditions. This decision was really effective, AirPower’16 was organised at beautiful sunny weather. Lets hope for the same for 2019!

According to the press conference, the first official confirmations will coming around March (among the first we can expect news from Swiss Air Force in January-February).
